What is a EULA?
EULA stands for End User License Agreement. When purchasing a font license, a user pays for utilizing the font data, which is a small software package that is installed on a computer. The purchase of Kontour fonts grants a user certain rights to use the font software, but it never warrants a transfer of any copyrights of the typefaces themselves. The exclusive copyright of the typeface designs remains with Kontour.

What is the Difference between a Desktop and a Web Font License?
Desktop licenses are installed on computers predominantly to use the type in documents for print and in mock-ups of design creations. Web fonts are required for fonts on a web page loading as instructed by HTML markup and CSS styling with the @font-face rule.

What situation requires a Desktop License?
A desktop license is required for type in documents for print and in mock-ups of design creations. Choose the appropriate number of licenses based on the number of computers (CPUs) and locations the fonts will be installed on. Learn more about a desktop font license.

What situation requires a Web Font License?
A web font license is required for fonts on a web page loading as instructed by HTML markup and CSS styling with the @font-face rule. Self-hosted web fonts are provided in the formats .woff, and .woff2. Kontour web fonts are purchased once with no time limit (perpetual) for up to 100K monthly visitors. They are priced by the number of domains owned by one entity and expected unique visitors of monthly (cumulative) page views. If your website gets more traffic than initially expected or grows over time, please get in touch to purchase a license upgrade. Learn more about a web font license.

For Web Fonts, can I just use my Desktop Fonts and an online service to generate Web Fonts?
No. The EULA for desktop fonts you agreed to adhere to does not allow you to convert the OpenType font files (.otf) to any web font formats such as .woff, .woff2, .svg, and .ttf. Separate web fonts are required.

What is Hot Linking?
Kontour web font licenses require using htaccess to disallow hot linking the web fonts installed on a server. Hot linking refers to linking directly to non html objects on a server, such as images, .js files etc. Learn more about disallowing hot linking. Please read these instructions to disallow hot linking and best practices of web font installation.

What is an App Font License
An app license is obtained for the embedding or otherwise the inclusion of Kontour fonts in an app. App fonts are available in .ttf (True Type) format. App fonts are perpetual licenses and not subscription based. If you (or the app developer) wish to use the mobile app fonts in additional apps, you are required to upgrade your license for an additional fee. Learn more about an app font license.

Variable Fonts

A variable font (VF) is a unique kind of font file that compiles several fonts at once. The internal fonts can be reached through specific variations axes, or they can be set as pre-defined instances. The variations provide a way to move through a typeface’s design space, instead of being limited to its set static poles. In short, variable fonts allow static fonts to transform into flexible ones and dynamically change their style in, for example weight (wght), or width (wdth), among other VF features. Kontour offers variable fonts licensing for some typeface families included in their respective complete collections. Learn more about variable fonts here.

What is a Collection?
A collection means a complete family of typefaces consisting of different styles such as Light, Regular, Italic, etc. A bulk discount is typically applied to a collection. If a family contains variable fonts, they are automatically included in a complete collection.

Is my Online Payment on the Kontour website secure?
Yes. Our e-commerce platform uses best-in-class security practices to maintain a high level of security. The payment service employs the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry for secure transactions. Kontour does not retain any credit card details. Each time an order is placed, the information is directly transmitted to the credit card service. Kontour never stores credit card numbers, so there is no chance of unauthorized access, security breaches, or the numbers being stolen after a purchase is completed.

Can I exchange fonts after a purchase?
No. Unfortunately any exchanges of typeface styles, or font formats cannot be fulfilled. Please make sure you order the fonts that you intend to license in the correct style and format.

Do I have to pay Taxes when ordering any Fonts?
By law Kontour is required to apply sales tax to all orders placed within the state of Texas, so your final total may be slightly higher. Besides the lone star state, no taxes apply to orders from any other place in the world.

How do I get the Fonts?
After placing an order the fonts can be downloaded from your account. In addition, you will receive an email receipt with the completed order summary together with a download link. Sometimes the email arrives in the junk folder, please make sure you check it. The downloaded font files are compressed and have a file extension of .zip. Double click the compressed folder to install the fonts on your computer.

An End User License Agreement or EULA is a legal commitment between a type foundry, the software supplier, and an end-user utilizing the font data. The EULA specifies the details of use that apply to the application of the font software. Learn more about specific licenses on the dedicated license page. Please inquire for license types not listed, and questions related to corporate licensing.
